• 1013.2 Height: Guards form a protective barrier no less than 42 inches high for multifamily and ng units in occupancies in Group R-2 guards are 36 inches high. Other heights are available upon request.
• 1607 Load: Handrail assembles and guards are designed to resist a load of 50 lpf (0.73kN/m) applied in any direction at the top and transfer loads throughout the support of the structure. One to two family dwellings require a single concentrated load. Handrails assembles and guards can resist a single concentrated load of 200lbs (0.89kN) when applied in any direction at any point.
• Openings: Open guards have balasters or ornamental patterns such that a 4 inch diameter (102mm) sphere cannot pass through any opening up to a height of 34 inches (864mm). A sphere of 8 inches (203mm) in diameter will not pass through on heights 34–42 inches above the adjacent walking surfaces. One exception includes a triangular opening formed by the riser, tread and bottom rail at the open side of a stairway that has a maximum size
  to ensure that a sphere of 6 inches in diameters does not pass through the opening.
• Masonry anchors 2 at 3/16 dia. x 2 deep for collars cap and bottom for walls that are structurally sound (brick tied) or use blocking similar to facia/siding attachment.
